Horde Win Big

Another big night for the Northern Horde, as they skated to an 11-1 win over the Diablos on July 28 at Breck.  With Pete Morrow out with an ankle injury, Casey Johnson of the Walking Sticks/Wildcats filled in admirably.  The Horde controlled the play of the game, out shooting the Diablos 42-12.  Mark Paska opened the scoring at 13:47 of the first when he stuck a loose puck under the pads of the Diablos’ goalie.  That was followed by two goals from Jon Zimmerman, including a breakaway set up by a strong defensive play by Will Schultz at the defensive blue line, and Dan Kline’s first goal of the night.  Andrew Dayton scored his first goal for the Horde at 16:09 of the second on a sweet put back off a shot from Will Schultz that was created by Ryan Chester’s good defensive positioning.  This highlighted a three point night for Andrew.  That was followed by two goals from Jeff Nelson, including a slap shot off the face-off, and two goals from Tyler LaMontWill Schultz scored his first goal for the Horde at 1:33 of the second period with a beautiful assist from Andrew Dayton.  Dan Kline scored his second of the night in the third period off a Liam Monahan feed.  In all, 11 of the 13 Horde skaters got a point on the evening as the defense again kept the Diablos in check, including a few hard hits from Liza Messinger.  We play the Diablos again at 9:30 on Wednesday, August 5 at 9:30 at Breck.

No Game - But Lots of Tired Folks

Friends and Family Night, Sunday, July 26, was a fun event for the Horde faithful.  The house was packed at Bloomington Ice Gardens.  Since no referees were present, the game was a scrimmage and no official stats were kept.  However, we played three physical 20 minutes periods against the Diablos, which ended in a 2-2 tie on the scoreboard (though it was really a 3-2 Horde win).   Will Schultz netted his first goal for the mighty Horde and Bill Messinger made his first Horde appearance, albeit on the Horde bench while he continues to recover from injury.  The Horde skated with a short bench of 10 skaters, including Liam Monihan’s first game at defense, but it did not matter as we held the Diablos to only 2 goals.

We take the ice Wednesday at Breck – 9:30 start.

Go Horde!

Horde Are 3-0!

On Wedensday night, July 22, the Northern Horde again turned in a strong, but balanced, performace.  For the first time in Horde history, we opened the scoring with a Dan Kline goal at 13:31 of the 1st period. After the Horde put up a 5-0 lead in the first period on goals by Liam Monahan, Jeff Neslon and two from Jon Zimmerman, the Diablos got on the board with Dan Mueller’s first goal and followed that with a goal by Diablo Dmitry TovbJeff Nelson added his second goal of the night for the Horde in the second period, where the Diablos outplayed the Horde.

In the third period, the Horde responded well with Dan Kline’s second goal of the night, as well as goals from Tyler LaMont, Brian Hinderks and Dan Bolles.  Brother/Sister combination Andrew Dayton and Liza Messinger picked up assists on the final goal of the night – Liza’s first point in the brick red and white.  With that point, all Horde skaters who have appeared in a game have picked up a point, showing the balanced nature of the Horde attack.

The defense was again strong, limiting the Diablos to 12 shots on goal.  Pete Morrow picked up his third win in goal and had a handful of great stops on the night.  The Diablos continue to put up a strong fight, but the Horde's winning ways continued.

On Sunday night, the Horde againt take on the Diablos - at 6:45 pm at Bloomington.  It’s friends and family night and the Horde expect a big crowd (by AHA beginner school standards), even though the Horde expect a short bench.   Go Horde!

Big Horde Victory

The Horde stepped it up Wednesday night with a strong 8-3 victory over the Diablos. After falling behind 1-0, the Horde again answered the call quickly. After trading goals with the Diablos, Liam Monahan scored his first goal for the Horde to tie it up. Then, the scoring continued, culminating with Will Schultz's first point for the Horde on Zimmerman's 3rd goal of the night. Mark Paska and Jeff Nelson each scored for the second consecutive game and Tyler LaMont picked up his first goal for the Brick Red and White.

The true stars again were the Horde's stingy defense of LaMont, Hinderks, Chester and Kline, which allowed only 3 goals and 20 shots. Pete Morrow's undefeated season continued.

Horde Wins Second Game

The Northern Horde Hockey Team won its second game against the Diablos on July 15, 2009. The second period continues to be the Horde's strength.
