Pete Morrow played his finest game in goal Monday night backstopping the Horde to a 2-0 win against our rivals, the Diablos, at Wakota. This was the first B-school shutout of the season and Pete’s first career shutout. While the defense of Ryan Chester, Dan Kline, Brian Hinderks and Tyler LaMont had a strong night limiting the Diablos to 13 shots, the Horde offense looked sluggish throughout.
The first period ended scoreless, with both teams limited to low quality shots. Andrew Dayton scored the first goal of the night for the Horde six minutes into the second period on a beautiful pass from a streaking Dan Bolles, who picked up the puck on a David Homel pass. The Horde had two good scoring chances later in the period when they drew two consecutive tripping penalties, but were not able to capitalize. In the third period, Jon Nygren stole the puck from a Diablos defenseman and fed Dan Bolles for his second point of the night.
All in all, the Horde hung in for an impressive victory against a rejuvenated Diablos who had their goalie, Steve Peterson, back in net for the first time in a few weeks. We rematch on Wednesday night at Breck.
